Two Dead in Superbike Horror
The opening round of the 2025 British Supersport Championship ended in heartbreak on Monday. A horrific 11-bike crash claimed the lives of two riders. The incident occurred on the first lap of the race at Oulton Park as competitors exited the opening corner. It triggered a devastating chain reaction that left two dead. Tragedy Strikes at Oulton Park
Owen Jenner, 21, and Shane Richardson, 29, suffered fatal injuries in the collision. The race was red-flagged and subsequently cancelled. Series director Stuart Higgs later describing the incident as “severe and catastrophic.”
Remembering the Riders
Owen Jenner, a promising young British rider representing Rapid Honda, was treated trackside before being taken to the circuit’s medical centre. Despite all efforts to save him, he succumbed to a catastrophic head injury.
New Zealander Shane Richardson, who raced for the Astro-JJR Hippo Suzuki team, was also attended to immediately and transferred to Royal Stoke University Hospital with severe chest injuries. Tragically, he passed away before reaching the hospital.
The loss of both men has sent shockwaves through the motorsport community. Jenner was seen as one of the sport’s rising stars, while Richardson was a seasoned competitor known for his determination and passion.
Multiple Riders Involved in Oulton Park Crash
In addition to the two fatalities, 47-year-old Tom Tunstall sustained significant back and abdominal injuries and was transferred to hospital for further treatment. Several others—including Carl Harris, Max Morgan, Cameron Hall, Freddie Barnes, and Morgan McLaren-Wood—were treated for minor injuries at the circuit. Riders Lewis Jones, Corey Tinker, and George Edwards were also involved in the incident but escaped injury.
Emergency services responded swiftly, and a formal investigation is now underway. Motorsport Vision Racing (MSVR) and the Motorcycle Racing Control Board have confirmed that they are working closely with Cheshire Police to determine the circumstances surrounding the crash.
