All Change at Alpine: Major Shake-Ups in F1 Team

Team Principal Oliver Oakes Resigns

It’s been a whirlwind 24 hours for the Alpine Formula 1 team. Following the Miami Grand Prix, Team Principal Oliver Oakes has stepped down with immediate effect. This marks the third team boss to leave Alpine in just two years.

In the interim, Executive Advisor Flavio Briatore will take over Oakes’ responsibilities until a new Team Principal is appointed. The team currently sits ninth in the Constructors’ Championship—just one point off the bottom of the table.

Driver Line-Up Shift: Colapinto Replaces Doohan

Less than 12 hours after Oakes’ departure, Alpine confirmed that reserve driver Franco Colapinto will replace Australian rookie Jack Doohan for the next five races.

The team has announced it will be rotating the second driver seat, with a fresh evaluation set before the British Grand Prix. This decision follows a series of underwhelming performances and a crash in Miami, where Doohan collided with Liam Lawson at Turn 1 and was forced to retire.

Gasly Holds Steady as Alpine Evaluates Options

Pierre Gasly, the team’s lead driver, is currently 12th in the Drivers’ Championship with 7 points. Doohan, on the other hand, has yet to score. While he’s shown flashes of potential, consistency has been lacking.

Spotlight on Franco Colapinto

All eyes are now on young Argentine Franco Colapinto, who enjoys strong fan support—especially back home. His upcoming performances will be crucial in determining who is the best long-term teammate for Gasly.

The next race at Imola will be a proving ground for Colapinto. Can he make a strong impression and help pull Alpine up the standings?
