Ladbrokes Pay Dylan Phelan’s Year Old Bet
Ladbrokes pay Dylan Phelan after a long wait, finally settling a significant bet the Waterford stable lad placed over a year ago. Dylan Phelan, from Dungarvan, Co Waterford, can now celebrate after Ladbrokes confirmed they will honour his six-figure win following discussions with the Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board (IHRB).

Dylan’s Winning Double
Back in April 2024, 25-year-old Dylan, who works for trainer Declan Queally at a Cappagh stable, placed a €30 each-way double on two of his yard’s horses — Diamond Nora and Rocky’s Diamond. Defying odds of 125/1 and 80/1 respectively, both horses crossed the line first at Ballinrobe and Limerick Racecourses. The miraculous result meant Dylan was due a life-changing payout of €319,440.
Ladbrokes Hold Dylan’s Winnings
Despite the victories, Dylan’s celebrations were put on hold as Ladbrokes delayed payment, citing an ongoing IHRB investigation into the “apparent improvement” in the form of both horses. While other punters who backed the winners with different bookmakers were reportedly paid out, Dylan’s winnings remained in limbo for over a year.
Throughout the ordeal, Dylan maintained that he had simply spotted value in horses he knew well, riding and caring for both daily. Reflecting on the moment, he recalled how he felt he was witnessing a “lottery win” as he watched Rocky’s Diamond and Diamond Nora deliver stunning performances on the track.
Finally, Ladbrokes Pay Dylan Phelan
Ladbrokes have now confirmed they will pay out all related bets despite the IHRB investigation still being underway. In a statement, the bookmaker explained that after discussions with the regulatory board, and in the absence of any definitive findings, they felt it appropriate to proceed with settling the bets under their terms and conditions.
Importantly, the IHRB clarified that Dylan Phelan himself is not the subject of any investigation. With Ladbrokes finally moving to pay the long-outstanding sum, Dylan’s incredible betting story closes on a high note — albeit a year later than expected.
